Chelsea Hotel #1 by Leonard Cohen. Betcha didn’t know there was a number 1, eh? The Willie York mentioned in the song was Leonard Cohen’s neighbour during his brief time living in Tennessee. Whenever there was a bad storm he would go to Cohen’s house and ask him for 20 dollars. Cohen, amused by his quirks, would often oblige. My favourite “new” lyric: “My friends of that year they tried to go queer, and me, I was just getting even.”
